DeLand High Honors 7 Athletes on National Signing Day!

Seven Bulldogs signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Jackson Hickox - Brunswick Community College (Baseball), Dawson McLaughlin - Daytona State College (Baseball), Austin Huber - Florida Southern College (Baseball), Stephen Moffatt - Stetson University (Baseball), Brandon Castle - Eckerd College (Baseball), Bryson Hutchinson - Mississippi State University (Baseball) & Cameron Neely - Webber International University (Volleyball & Softball). 

 

Jackson Hickox will be going off to Brunswick Community College next fall to continue his education and athletic career. Jackson has lettered in baseball for three years at DeLand High School and was the 2015 DHS Pitcher of the Year. Throughout his career at DeLand, he has accumulated over 50 hours of community service cleaning up Conrad Park, Reading to Elementary Schools, and the MEStrong 5K. He plans to study Sports Medicine to become an Athletic Trainer. 

 

Austin Huber drew the attention of Florida Southern College with his three years of varsity baseball experience. He has been on the honor roll all four years and boasts a 3.81 GPA. Austin was part of the 2015-16 News Journal 2nd Team All-Area. He has over 100 hours of community service with activities including the MeStrong 5K, Rebuilding the Freedom Playground, and Reading to the Elementary Schools. Austin's plan is to major in Sports Business with a Pre-Law Track. 

 

Stephen Moffatt, a four year Honor Roll student, has lettered in Baseball for three years with DeLand High School. He drew the attention of Stetson University and plans to stay local to play for them. In the 2015-16 season, he made the News Journal 2nd Team All-Area. Stephen has over 100 hours of community service including the Conrad Clean-Up, MeStrong 5K, Rebuilding the Freedom Playground and Reading Books to the Elementary Schools. Stephen has a 3.63 GPA and plans to major in Sports Business. 

 

Dawson McLaughlin, a senior mentor, has lettered in baseball all four years. He has over 100 hours of community service volunteering for the Clean-Up in Port Orange after Hurricane Matthew, the Conrad Clean-Up, MeStrong 5K, and Rebuilding Freedom Park. He plans to major in Criminology and play baseball for Daytona State College.

 

Brandon Castle is a three year DeLand baseball varsity player and has been a member of AVID for four years. He has volunteered for the Hurricane Matthew Clean-Up, and reading to the local Elementary Schools. He is a Scholar-Athlete with a 3.9 GPA. He will be playing baseball at Eckerd College while majoring in Business Management. 

 
 

Bryson Hutchinson is a four-year varsity lettered Athlete in Baseball. For three years in a row, he has made the News Journal 1st Team All-Area. He is a Youth Leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a community service volunteer with activities with the Special Olympics, MeStrong 5K, and Toys for Tots. He plans to study Business Administration while playing baseball. 

 

Cameron Neely, a Member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, will be playing Volleyball and Softball at Webber International University. She has lettered in Volleyball and Softball for five years as well as one year in Basketball. Her sophomore year, she made the News Journal 1st Team All-Area for Volleyball, 1st Team All-Conference for Volleyball, Athlete of the Wekk, "Top Area Girl Athlete to watch" and Best Offensive and Defensive Player for Volleyball and Softball. She has over 75 hours of community service volunteering with the West Volusia Little League and Seville Village Improvement Association. Cameron is a Scholar-Athlete with a 3.6 GPA and will be majoring in Business Administration.
