Wrestling: 4 Conference Champions, 7 Medalists at 5 Star!
On Saturday, February 4th, the DeLand Bulldog Wrestling Team travelled to Atlantic High School, Port Orange, home of “The Sharks”, to compete in the 5 Star Conference Wrestling Championships.
The Bulldogs brought only ten wrestlers to the fourteen-weight class tournament, but had a great day, placing seven of ten wrestlers, including four Champions, and placed fourth as a team. The placers were:
113 lbs. – Senior, Nathan Hewson – Champion!
138 lbs. – Sophomore, Jaymes Morris – 3rd Place
145 lbs. – Senior, Marshal Stone – 2nd Place
152 lbs. – Senior, Yoachim “Pablo” Rios – Champion!
160 lbs. – Senior, Will Hennessy – Champion!
195 lbs. – Junior, Raymond “CJ” Haverty – Champion!
220 lbs. – Senior, Terence Neat – 3rd Place
The Bulldogs take to the mat again on Thursday, February 9, for a home dual meet with Timber Creek and “Senior Night”. On Friday and Saturday, February 10 & 11 the Lady Bulldog Wrestlers will attend the “Girls States” at Liberty High School. That same Saturday, the Junior Varsity boys will compete at the “Junior Varsity States” being held at Osceola High School.
