Six DeLand Medalists at DHS Hosted Wrestling District Tournament!

On Saturday, February 18, the DeLand Bulldogs hosted the FHSAA 3A, Region 1, District 3 Wrestling Tournament.  The Bulldogs, short on manpower most of the season, brought only 10 wrestlers to the mats out of the 14 weight classes.  The results of the day's competition were:

Nate “Dogg” Hewson, at 113 lbs., was DeLand’s only Champion with two decisions and a pin in the finals.  Second place medals went to Marshal Stone at 145 lbs., Will Hennessy at 160 lbs., Raymond “C.J.” Haverty at 195 lbs. and Terence Neat at 220 lbs.  “C.J.”, with a 30 – 2 record was the odds on favorite to win his weight class, but dislocated his shoulder in the finals and was unable to continue.  A third-place medal was won by Yoachim “Pablo” Rios at 152 lbs. and fourth place was earned by Gage Lauter @ 170 lbs.  All the place winners will move on to next week’s Region 1 tournament, at Flagler/Palm Coast High School, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 24th & 25th.

The very powerful Winter Springs Bears ran away with the team title by over 60 points ahead of the runner-up Hagerty Huskies.  Winter Springs had 9 of 14 weight class champions.  Team scores were: Winter Springs 240.0, Hagerty 176.5, DeLand 127.5, Lake Mary 113.5, Lake Howell 72.5, Oviedo 70.0, University (Orange City) 67.0, Seminole 35.5, Lyman 23.0 and Lake Brantley 21.5.
